Olabamiji, working to satisfy the world’s energy needs

Olabamiji joined Total's Graduate Training Scheme in 2005 and has moved up the ranks to Senior Contracts Engineer. Now Olabamiji is part of a team that provides commercial expertise to support the negotiation, award and execution of exploration seismic and non seismic contracts which safely optimise effective performance with best cost, and at the same time, protect the company’s best interests

Experience and Opportunity

I’m Proud to work for Total. I’m part of a dynamic, global company that’s working to satisfy the world’s energy needs. Like many young engineers, my first direct exposure to the world of oil and gas was as an intern. My internship was at one of the major oil exploration companies and it was primarily field-based. This front-line experience acted as the catalyst that really sparked my interest for the industry.

A question of knowledge

At university, I studied industrial engineering (BSc) and asset management (MSc) and was attracted by the range of opportunities the oil and gas industry provides. The industry is so broad that there’s a career to suit your specific interests – whether it’s technical or commercial – or in my case, both.

I began my career in the UK, working across both the technical and commercial side. I obtained my MCIPS status with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) under the sponsorship of Total.

A passion for better energy

The industry is incredibly varied and my focus on the supply chain is something that I think is particularly important. We work with many local suppliers, and I think for me that better energy is about spreading the economic benefits of our industry. Exploration is just one of the many constituent parts of the industry. The supply chain is vast and supports thousands of jobs.

Total is a company that encourages you to develop your career internationally. After 9 years in Aberdeen I was transferred to France, currently working as the segment leader for multi-client exploration seismic data contracts.
