The Young Peoples Trust for the Environment (YPTE) is committed to promoting environmental education in schools around the UK. It organizes the Better Energy School Awards each year in partnership with Total.

Making Young People Aware of Environmental Challenges

Created in 1982, charitable trust, YPTE, encourages young people’s understanding of the environment (such as biodiversity, climate change and recycling) and of the need for sustainability. YPTE issues publications and organizes free school talks.

The Better Energy School Awards: Recognizing Excellence in Environmental Education

YPTE and Total have teamed up to organize the Better Energy School Awards, open to schoolchildren aged 5 to 11, since 2006. The annual awards provide schools with a framework to stimulate greater environmental education across maths, science, technology, geography, arts and history. The judging criteria look for well-presented, original, cross-curricular initiatives that deliver strong messages. In 2016, over 35,000 schoolchildren took part in the initiative.
