Total has been present in the United Kingdom for more than 50 years.  We are fully integrated in all sectors of the energy business from exploration, production, refining, trading and marketing to end users and customers.  With some 2,500 people directly employed and many thousands more jobs indirectly supported, we invest in the future of our workforce through training and creating opportunities to develop skills.

Continuing to Invest

Total is a major energy player and leading oil and gas operator on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf, with equity production of 158,000 boe/d in 2016.  Natural gas represents 68% of our production in the UK.  Our production comes from several operated fields in three major hubs - Northern North Sea (Alwyn/Dunbar), Central Graben (Elgin/Franklin region) and West of Shetland (Laggan-Tormore area).  Over the past few years we have continued to invest and brought complex developments onstream. In 2015 we completed the West Franklin (Phase 2) project for £2 billion. In 2016 we finished the £3.5 billion Laggan-Tormore project, a landmark development that opened up the West of Shetland frontier for gas exploration.  In 2017 we used this new West of Shetland infrastructure to bring the Edradour-Glenlivet fields online, 30% under budget and a year ahead of schedule.

Supporting Flexibility and Diversity of Supply

The ongoing adaptation plan at Lindsey Oil Refinery in North Lincolnshire is securing jobs and ensuring a sustainable long-term business generating value for the region and the wider UK.  We are investing to modernise production, increase energy efficiency and lower emissions.  With some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, the Refinery has a capacity of 110,000 barrels per day and a comprehensive logistical infrastructure including rail and road loading facilities and high capacity pipeline connection to the greater London area.

Natural gas, half of Total’s global production, plays a vital role in meeting the demand for energy. In the UK, Total is a shareholder in South Hook LNG Terminal, one of the largest re-gasification terminals in Europe.  Our flexible business model ensures vital energy supplies go where they are needed, enabling us to better meet the needs of our customers in the UK.

Closeness to Customers and Innovative solutions

We are committed to providing safe, affordable, reliable and clean energy.  Total is one of the leading suppliers of gas and power to businesses in the UK helping customers control and reduce their environmental impact through advanced meters and products such as Eco-Energy which provides 100% renewable gas and electricity.  Our gas and power purchase agreements allow customers to generate income from their own energy production whilst our demand side response products enable them to take advantage of incentives to adapt their electricity use at peak times.

We produce and market petroleum products including automotive and industrial lubricants, bitumen, aviation fuel, solvents and special fluids. Building strong and sustainable partnerships helps us better understand the needs of our customers, to whom we also provide a range of value added services.  We are introducing more energy efficient products into the lubricants market to improve engine performance, reduce energy usage and emissions.  Acquired in 2016, the Group’s affiliate SAFT UK manufactures advanced-technology batteries for industrial use.
