Experience and Opportunity
I’m Proud to work for Total. I’m part of a dynamic, global company that’s working to satisfy the world’s energy needs. Like many young engineers, my first direct exposure to the world of oil and gas was as an intern. My internship was at one of the major oil exploration companies and it was primarily field-based. This front-line experience acted as the catalyst that really sparked my interest for the industry.
A question of knowledge
At university, I studied industrial engineering (BSc) and asset management (MSc) and was attracted by the range of opportunities the oil and gas industry provides. The industry is so broad that there’s a career to suit your specific interests – whether it’s technical or commercial – or in my case, both.
In my role at Total within the exploration and production division in the UK, I worked across both the technical and commercial side. I enjoyed working with technical colleagues whilst also always thinking about the commercial applications. My focus is on the supply chain and ensuring that the right contracts are in place for the right value. I also obtained my MCIPS status with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) under the sponsorship of Total.
A passion for better energy
The industry is incredibly varied and my focus on the supply chain is something that I think is particularly important. We work with many local suppliers, and I think for me that better energy is about spreading the economic benefits of our industry. Exploration is just one of the many constituent parts of the industry. The supply chain is vast and supports thousands of jobs and companies up and down the country.
Total is also a company that allows you to develop your career internationally. Following approximately 9 years in Aberdeen I was transferred and I am now furthering my career in France.
